ICMR-CRMCH is a center under ICMR-National Institute of Immunohematology, Mumbai. Our new center ICMR-CRMCH is situated in the central India where the prevalence of sickle cell disease is high especially in tribal population. The work of ICMR-CRMCH Chandrapur will be critical in enhancing haemoglobinopathies control programs in the region and benefit the local population.
The mandate of our center is to serve as a leader in research on haemoglobinopathies in the country and become a Centre of Excellence for teaching, innovative research, technology development and translating this using appropriate technologies for the benefit of the patients.
The centre is equipped with world class facilities and will undertake community control programs and basic and translational research activities that will benefit the patients in this underserved region. The centre will also run a haematology clinic and a day care facility for comprehensive care of patients with haemoglobinopathies.
The centre aims to support the state and district administrations by confirming diagnosis, offering prevention programs by prenatal diagnosis and newborn screening for early diagnosis and comprehensive care.
The centre will also focus on local and national human resource development through training and academic programs. Once the academic program is started, young aspirants will be encouraged to achieve their goals in future through M.Sc and Ph.D programs.
